ASK CONGRESS NOT TO COSPONSOR THE NO KIDS IN CUFFS RESOLUTION
Restraint and seclusion are traumatic and abusive practices which are disproportionately used on students with disabilities and students of color. Our number one goal is to create safe schools for all where no students at any age or any stage of being enrolled in school are restrained or secluded in school. The No Kids in Cuffs resolution is a shortsighted and deeply flawed resolution which promotes a lower minimum standard for the use of restraint and does nothing about the issue of seclusion. We urge members of the House of Representatives to not cosponsor this resolution.
While we share the desire to end the use of handcuffs as a form of physical restraint on young children, we believe the resolution is flawed in both substance and message. Our primary concerns with the resolution are:
We need you to contact your Representatives to urge them to NOT cosponsor the No Kids in Cuffs resolution and instead support legislation such as the Keeping All Students Safe Act which protects all children from restraint and seclusion.
