Thank you for helping us to advocate for the reauthorization of the Money Follows the Person (MFP) Program over the past two years. We have achieved incremental short-term reauthorizations but the latest one is set to expire December 31, 2019. We are pleased to report that permanent renewal of MFP has been included in a bipartisan drug pricing proposal that was announced last week by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR). This is a positive step, but this bill has a long way to go and will likely result in negotiations between the Senate and House where there is no guarantee that this provision will be retained. We need your help to let your Senators and Representatives know that permanent reauthorization of MFP is a priority to the disability community and should be included in any negotiated piece of legislation.
MFP has provided funding to states to help more than 91,000 people with disabilities and older adults move from nursing homes and other institutions back to their communities. Since 2005, MFP has shown positive outcomes for people and cost savings for states, but funding for this critical program will expire at the end of December if Congress doesn’t act. For more information on MFP and the importance of reauthorization, see here: https://medicaid.publicrep.org/feature/money-follows-the-person/.
